COVER FOR TIME MAGAZINE

This is my first cover for Time, October 10th 2011 issue. Excerpts available online now, in newsstands next week.

Art for an article about the great division in spending between the upper and middle class by Jeffrey Sachs. I wasn't sure if Time would like the idea of the cover appearing as if it has been slashed in half, as it basically rips through the identity. But thankfully they loved it. The stack of money is copy paper that I cut. I colored the paper using my son's sidewalk chalk. I ground up the green, yellow and white chalk and made a powder until the hue was correct. Then I dusted the powder over the paper with my wife's blush brush.

Managing editor Richard Stengel unveiled the cover on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

THE LITERAL JAVA JACKET

Your coffee should looks its best, no? This literal java jacket serves the practical function of a typical java jacket, but looks a bit more stylish. Fully collapsible. Sleeves are attached on a perforated edge, enabling them to fold out when the jacket is opened..

DARK SIDE OF THE DORITOS

I noticed that there are a lot of Doritos flavors out there. There is literally a flavor for each color used in the Dark Side of the Moon album cover. So I thought it would be a fun project to try and make the album cover out of cut pieces from those Doritos bags.

RICE KRISPYHENGE

TWINKIE CIRCUITRY

I've always imagined Twinkies having an electronic, skeletal interior.

ASSAULT RIFLE CHRISTMAS COOKIES

Made a batch of Christmas cookies with my kids. I made the assault rifles. The Galil SAR got a little burned in the stock, but I like how it came out. I was a little sloppier with the ak-47, but it tasted great. I guess I've been playing too much COD Black Ops.

WATER TOWER PROJECTION

This is the water tower on top of the Wyman building in downtown Minneapolis. Carmichael Lynch, the ad agency where I work, occupies the top 4 floors of the building. Several months back I was asked to come up with some concepts for the water tower. Eventually looking to projection, as it was the most economical medium and ideal for keeping the historic tower in it's natural state. This tower, which we've named Rusty, faces the new Target Field Stadium, which just opened and is the new home of the Minnesota Twins. Several other projection ideas are in the works, but this simple face has been the clear favorite so far as it brings to life the physical structure itself allowing it to complete the overall look of the character. Currently, we're working to have Rusty react in realtime to the games in the stadium, so that If the team wins, he can cheer and if they lose, he cries.
